Does the darwin theory fit in with Islam?

On November 24, 1859, Charles Darwin published On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection.

Darwin made two points in The Origin of Species:
  • Today’s organisms descended from ancestral species.

On 1871, in his another book 'The Descent of Man' Charles Darwin specifically stated that humankind ultimately shared a common origin with the rest of animate nature.

Right after World War II, Williard F.Libby developed the radiocarbon, or carbon-14, dating technique - dating of fossils can be determined. This lead to the founding of early hominid. The Hominidae also known as great apes.

Earliest hominids-found in Africa and date from the Pliocene epoch(7 million years ago). The locus or site of human emergence was clearly in Africa. Humankind's closest relatives, the chimpanzee and the gorilla, are African, and it is accepted by many that humans and chimpanzees shared a common African ancestor perhaps 5 million years ago.

Charles Darwin, in his “The Origin of Species” (1859) and “The Descent of Man” (1871), presented his theory of evolution. He presented the theory of the Mechanism of Natural Selection or survival of the fittest. Darwinism maintains that living things were not created but came into being by chance. Darwinism, materialism and communism believe in matter not in spirit. Darwin himself regarded his theory based on assumption.

On the contrary, Islam believe in the theory of creation. As in the Quran verses in surah Al-Mu'minun, (23:12-14)

And certainly did We create man from an extract of clay.

Then We placed him as a sperm-drop in a firm lodging.

Then We made the sperm-drop into a clinging clot, and We made the clot into a lump [of flesh], and We made [from] the lump, bones, and We covered the bones with flesh; then We developed him into another creation. So blessed is Allah , the best of creator.

In addition, Prophet Adam (pbuh) is the first man among others as narrated in hadith nabawi:

"Actually humans came from Adam and Adam's (created) from the ground." (Bukhari)

Indeed, the example of Jesus to Allah is like that of Adam. He created Him from dust; then He said to him, "Be," and he was. (3:59)

In my personal opinion, the mechanism of natural selection can only apply to animal such in case of extinction of short neck giraffes.

Speaking of Charles Darwin theory, there is no DNA research pointing to a connection between apes and humans as was supposed by the scientists and those who had financed them over the years. In fact, the barnyard pig is closer to humans in many aspects, than a monkey or a gorilla. Consider the fact, doctors use the skin from pigs to replace needed tissue on burn victims and the famous movie actor, John Wayne had a pig's heart valve installed in his own heart in a 1977 operation to save his life. It worked, too - until his smoking caused him to die of cancer.

Also, there are many scientific research that proves the Charles Darwin theory of evolution cannot be accepted and is scientifically rejected.

  • The laws of inheritance discovered by Gregor Mendel (1822 – 1884) and verified by the science of genetics have nullified the theory of evolutionary mechanism.
  • Neo-Darwinism advances the Modern synthetic Theory”. Mutations, i.e.; genetic disorders do not cause living beings to develop on the contrary they are always harmful.
  • The British Paleontologist, Drerk v. Ager in “The Nature of the Fossil Record” admits that the fossil records shows not gradual evolution but the sudden explosion of one group at the expense of another.
  • Douglas J. Futuyma, an eminent evolutionist biologist in his book, “Science of Trail” announces organism as the creation of some omnipotent intelligence.

Thus, the conclusion is Darwin theory doesn't fit in with Islam as Darwin believes that humans and animals are descended from the same ancestor while Islam taught us that humans and animals are both created by Allah. Furthermore, humans are neither descended nor evolve from apes.

In surah Ar-Rahman, (55:3-4)

He has created man,

[And] taught him eloquence.

So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny? (55:13)
