salam, 1st of all i would like to wish happy new year to all muslim. today after maghrib we r entering the new year according to Islamic calendar. do u know dat in Islam we count the start of new day after maghrib?
Awal Muharram is celebrated by Muslims as the day symbolises two important events in the Muslim year.
Awal means beginning in English and Muharram is the name of the first month in the Muslim calendar.
Muharram is the first month of the Islamic Calendar. It is one of the four sacred months of the year in which fighting is prohibited. Since the Islamic calendar is a lunar calendar, Muharram moves from year to year compare to Gregorian Calendar. Gregorian Calendar also known as Western Calendar or Christian Calendar.Muharram is so called because it is unlawful to fight during this month; the word is derived from the word haram, meaning "forbidden". It is held to be the most sacred of all the months, excluding Ramadan.
The day also coincides with the Prophet Muhammad's(peace be on him) and His followers journey from Mecca to Medina on the first of Muharram in 622CE. (aka Hijrah)
As Hijrah has also been interpreted to mean “the breaking of old ties,” cutting off the era of knowledge from the previous era of ignorance (jahiliyya). we can also interpret it as a migration from bad to good. so let us think about the general meaning of Hijrah, and regard this as a good time for 'New Year Resolutions'.
As for me, i wish to be a better muslimah! Allah's will. And may all the good deeds we r going to do are also because of Allah ( nawaitu lillahi ta'ala )
Owh, dont forget to recite the prayer for the end and the start of the year!
Let's Hijrah! :)
